The Commandments of God

Jesus Christ’s message about the commandments is the same in the Old Testament and the New Testament. Love God and love others.

Exodus 20:1-17, Deutoronomy 5:1-22, Matthew 22:36-40

Master, which is the great commandment in the law? (37) Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. (38) This is the first and great commandment. (39) And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. (40) On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

How to love God: (Exodus 20:1-11, Matthew 22:37-38)

  1. Thou shalt have no other gods
  2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
  3. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain
  4. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

(39) And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

How to love others: (Exodus 20:12-17, Mattew 22:39)

  1. Honor thy father and mother
  2. Thou shalt not kill
  3. Thou shalt not commit adultery
  4. Thou shalt not steal
  5. Thou shalt not bear false witness
  6. Thou shalt not covet
